Of Light and Journeys
A collection of blogs and interviews about the study of light, optics, and photonics and the journeys of various experts that work in related fields.
Connecting clinicians, researchers, engineers, and designers.
I am currently a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Cell Biology at Yale University. Over the last ten or so years I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects that range from optometry (designing drug delivery systems in the eye) to optical engineering in cells (engineering cells to express high refractive index proteins that the cells could then reorganize when stimulated with an extracellular stimulus). Currently I am working on developing microscopy-based tools to study biochemical processes that mimic the molecular pathways of information transfer in our brain.
Through the course of my academic career so far, I have had the opportunity to observe the many facets of optics and photonics research particularly as it pertains to many branches of biology. Despite this fact, many of the groundbreaking research in optics and photonics technology takes a very long time to reach biology in many cases unless the optics engineers communicate directly with the researchers and clinicians. So I have set up this blog to encourage cross-talk between the optics professionals and those that use optics in their research to help science and technology reach further than we have ever before.
